DESCRIPTION:MacDowell in New Hampshire supports journalists/writers by providing residencies (studio\, lodging and meals for two weeks to two months) and project funding of up to $2\,500 in addition to financial aid for accepted applicants engaged in long-form journalism projects. \nA MacDowell Fellowship includes a private studio\, accommodations and three meals a day for two to eight weeks. There are no residency fees. Artists are responsible for materials and travel expenses; financial assistance is available to nonfiction writers in residence based on need. DESCRIPTION:Travel grants are available for journalists to cover the 13th Heidelberg Laureate Forum. \n“The HLF is an annual networking conference where 200 carefully selected young researchers in mathematics and computer science have the unique chance to meet distinguished scientists in their fields for one week of interdisciplinary academic dialogue. The vibrant atmosphere of the event inspires a blend of scientific discussion and informal interactions among the participants\, setting the HLF apart from traditional conferences. Panel discussions\, lectures and workshops spur scientifically driven debate\, which is then balanced by a variety of social events\, permitting participants to pursue their discourse in an inviting environment. \n“Attending journalists will have the exclusive opportunity to interview renowned laureates from mathematics and computer science\, both in press panels and one-on-one. In addition\, they will be able to engage directly with some of the most promising young researchers from those fields. Journalists are permitted to take part in virtually all of the Forum’s scientific program elements as well as social gatherings in the evenings. Opportunities will also be provided for journalists to network and collaborate with their peers in the press corps. \n“Grants cover travel and visa costs as well as room and board during the stay in Heidelberg. \n“Journalists who do not receive a travel grant or who have missed the travel grant application deadline [of April 8] may nevertheless apply for accreditation to cover the Forum at their own expense.”

DESCRIPTION:“The Fund for Investigative Journalism provides grants and other support for reporters to produce high-quality\, unbiased\, nonpartisan investigative stories that have an impact. \n“Freelance journalists\, staff reporters and media outlets are eligible for grants\, and their investigations can be for print\, online or broadcast stories\, books\, documentaries or podcasts. \nTypes of grants: \n\nRegular grants: Proposals are reviewed three to four times a year for grants up to $10\,000. The next deadline is Sept. 14\, 2026.\nSeed funding: Small grants\, up to $2\,500\, are available for preliminary reporting that can lead to full investigations. These grants cover costs like open-records requests and initial reporting trips. The next deadline is Sept. 14\, 2026.\nFollow-up grants: Proposals are accepted for timely follow-up coverage to original investigations that were produced with grants from the Fund. Grantees can apply for expedited review for follow-up grants up to $2\,500.\nRegular grants for those who have previously received Seed funding: Proposals are reviewed for individuals who received Seed funding from FIJ for grants up to $10\,000 on a rolling basis. Applicants receive a decision within about two to four weeks.\nDiversity Fellowships are offered to increase diversity in the field of investigative journalism.
