DESCRIPTION:MacDowell in New Hampshire supports journalists/writers by providing residencies (studio\, lodging and meals for two weeks to two months) and project funding of up to $2\,500 in addition to financial aid for accepted applicants engaged in long-form journalism projects. \nA MacDowell Fellowship includes a private studio\, accommodations and three meals a day for two to eight weeks. There are no residency fees. Artists are responsible for materials and travel expenses; financial assistance is available to nonfiction writers in residence based on need. DESCRIPTION:“Applications are now open to join the fourth cohort of the Ocean Reporting Network (ORN)\, a fellowship program that gives professional journalists the opportunity to spend up to a year working on an in-depth or investigative ocean story. \n“We welcome ambitious proposals on the main ocean threats of climate change; over- and illegal fishing; biodiversity loss and pollution; and the impact on species\, ecosystems\, and communities. But we also strongly encourage proposals on underreported topics that also deserve attention\, such as deep-sea mining\, marine energy generation\, blue finance and carbon crediting\, marine genetic resources and benefit sharing\, shipping\, marine carbon dioxide removal and ocean geoengineering\, aquaculture\, marine protected areas (creation\, implementation\, and management)\, polar issues\, fishmeal production\, and more. Data projects that use marine\, scientific and satellite data and science-based projects that look at ocean systems are also a priority for us. \n“We continue to seek investigations that include\, or are tailor-made for\, a cross-border\, collaborative approach.” \nFellows will receive funding for their reporting\, training opportunities\, access to data and documents\, options to collaborate with other fellows and more. DESCRIPTION:“The Fund for Investigative Journalism provides grants and other support for reporters to produce high-quality\, unbiased\, nonpartisan investigative stories that have an impact. \n“Freelance journalists\, staff reporters and media outlets are eligible for grants\, and their investigations can be for print\, online or broadcast stories\, books\, documentaries or podcasts. \nTypes of grants: \n\nRegular grants: Proposals are reviewed three to four times a year for grants up to $10\,000. The next deadline is Sept. 14\, 2026.\nSeed funding: Small grants\, up to $2\,500\, are available for preliminary reporting that can lead to full investigations. These grants cover costs like open-records requests and initial reporting trips. The next deadline is Sept. 14\, 2026.\nFollow-up grants: Proposals are accepted for timely follow-up coverage to original investigations that were produced with grants from the Fund. Grantees can apply for expedited review for follow-up grants up to $2\,500.\nRegular grants for those who have previously received Seed funding: Proposals are reviewed for individuals who received Seed funding from FIJ for grants up to $10\,000 on a rolling basis. Applicants receive a decision within about two to four weeks.\nDiversity Fellowships are offered to increase diversity in the field of investigative journalism. DESCRIPTION:“The American Academy in Berlin is an independent\, nonprofit institute for advanced study in the arts\, humanities\, social sciences\, law\, journalism\, and public policy. Its primary mission is to strengthen the cultural and intellectual ties between the United States and Germany. Each year\, following a rigorous selection process\, the Academy awards roughly two dozen semester-long fellowships to individuals who demonstrate excellence in their respective fields. The Berlin Prize is a residential fellowship and recipients are expected to be in residence at the American Academy for the semester. \n“The Academy welcomes applications from a broad range of disciplines in the humanities\, social sciences\, law\, journalism\, and various areas of public policy. We also generally encourage projects that address pressing issues of the day\, such as democracy\, security\, technology and society (especially AI)\, energy (including climate)\, and global order. Dedicated fellowships are also available to support projects in Jewish studies\, German studies\, and public health and biotechnology. While project proposals need not focus on topics related to Germany\, candidates should explain how a residency in Berlin would enhance their work. \n“Berlin Prize Fellows receive monthly stipends of $5000\, roundtrip airfare\, accommodation at or near the Hans Arnhold Center\, partial board\, and access to in-house library services and professional networking opportunities.”
