“The Science Journalists Association of Australia grants program is designed to help support science journalists realise ambitious and independent science reporting projects. In 2026, we are offering a up to $13,000 in grant funding.
“There are four categories of grant funding to apply for: Student/early-career, independent reporting, professional development and travel.
“The 2026 program may also offer an additional discretionary grant (also up to $2,000), for an exceptional application or to bolster an existing grant already awarded if it would benefit from extra funding, at the judge’s discretion.
“The SJAA is also thrilled to announce that the 2026 grants round will include an additional two grants, worth $2,500 each.
“Only SJAA members are eligible to apply for the 2026 grants round. If you’re not currently an SJAA member, we encourage you to join. Your membership fee goes towards supporting the grant program and strengthening science journalism in Australia. All those details are available here.”
