Storytelling or Storylistening: The Role of Receptivity in Crafting Narratives

March 11, 2026 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm EDT

This edition of the Vital Impacts Online Speaker Series features Amy Martin, “the acclaimed environmental journalist and audio storyteller behind the award-winning podcast Threshold.

“Since launching the series in 2016, Martin has taken listeners beyond the headlines through deeply reported, immersive seasons exploring topics such as the restoration of the American bison, the rapidly warming Arctic, and the global effort to limit warming to 1.5°C always centering nuance, context, and lived human experience.

“A former Scripps Fellow in Environmental Journalism whose work has appeared on All Things Considered, The World, Here & Now, and Reveal, Martin will explore how deep listening to landscapes and to the communities most affected by change, can transform how we tell urgent environmental stories without oversimplifying them.”
