“In communities across America, individuals and families are increasingly vulnerable to financial hardship due to exorbitant medical costs, with few solutions on the horizon. The U.S. delivers some of the world’s most advanced medical care – but at exceptionally high cost, with uneven access and inconsistent outcomes.

“For journalists, covering the complexities of the U.S. healthcare system requires a contextual grasp of how it has evolved through the decades, and whether the model can pivot to more efficiently and humanely serve all who need it.

“To help strengthen journalistic expertise, NPF will host 25 fellows from around the country for three days of briefings from experts in public health, research and/or academia, policy, providers and insurance to help them master this topic. The program is designed to fuel story ideas and provide authoritative sources.”
