This funding program is “designed to bridge the gap between life science research and public communication. Funded by a personal donation from Maria Leptin, the former Director of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO), it offers established science journalists the opportunity to undertake a fellowship of between three and twelve months to broaden and deepen their knowledge of science.”
“The scheme supports science journalism by providing:
- Journalists with funded placements (sabbaticals) at one or more research institutions to deepen and broaden their knowledge of the life and associated sciences.
- Researchers wishing to transition full time to science journalism with funded placements in one or more media newsrooms so they can learn and train in journalism and develop a portfolio of work.
“Applicants must reside in an EMBC Member State, and their placement/s must also occur in an EMBC Member State. The placements must be in-person to maximize opportunities for learning and engagement. Virtual placements are not eligible.”
