“Mongabay is now accepting applications for the 2026 Southeast Asia Ocean Reporting Fellowship.

“This six-month, fully remote fellowship supports early- and mid-career environmental journalists from and based in coastal Southeast Asian countries in building their reporting portfolios while covering critical ocean issues and solutions in the region.

“Fellows will work closely with Mongabay editors to develop original stories on topics such as fisheries, marine pollution, climate change, protected and conserved areas, and community-led conservation.

“As this fellowship is run in English, applicants must be able to report, write and communicate at a high level of English.”

• When: September 1, 2026 – February 28, 2027
• Who: Journalists from coastal Southeast Asian countries, with a focus on Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Not eligible: Singapore and Brunei.
• Stipend: US$500/month
