AACR June L. Biedler Prize for Cancer Journalism

"The AACR June L. Biedler Prize for Cancer Journalism was established by the AACR in 2015 to raise awareness of the critical role that the media play in educating the public about cancer and cancer research." The award is open to "print, broadcast, and online professional journalists whose stories appear in newspapers, magazines, websites, and broadcast platforms that target lay public audiences." Winners receive a cash prize of $5,000 and a commemorative award. For the 2023 award, submissions are due on December 7.

Celebrating the best journalism produced for a U.K. audience, the British Journalism Awards are open to all publishers and journalists in print, broadcast, or online media. The awards acknowledge and recognize great journalism that is revelatory and has a real world impact. Categories include the built environment, energy & environment, health & life sciences, and technology. In 2023, the entry deadline is September 29, and the awards will be given in December.

"Named for Paul E. Klopsteg, a principal founder, a former American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) President, and a long-time member of AAPT, the Klopsteg Memorial Lecture Award recognizes outstanding communication of the excitement of contemporary physics to the general public. The recipient delivers the Klopsteg Lecture at an AAPT Summer Meeting on a topic of current significance and at a level suitable for a non-specialist audience and receives a monetary award, an Award Certificate, and travel expenses to the meeting. Self-nomination is not appropriate for this award. "

CASW Evert Clark/Seth Payne Award for Young Science Journalists

"The award is intended to encourage young science writers by recognizing outstanding reporting and writing in any field of science. The award is given in memory of Ev Clark, a veteran journalist at Business Week, The New York Times and Newsweek, and Seth Payne, his long-time friend and colleague at Business Week and a founder of the award. It is designed to carry on the work of both men, who offered friendship and advice to generations of young journalists." Winners receive a cash prize and expenses paid to attend the NASW/CASW Science Writers conference, where the award is presented.

AHCJ Awards for Excellence in Health Care Journalism

"Since 2004, the Awards for Excellence in Health Care Journalism have recognized the best health reporting in print, broadcast, and online media. The contest was created by journalists for journalists and is not influenced or funded by commercial or special-interest groups. There are 14 categories. Most are topic-based, meaning entries compete head-to-head whether they appeared in magazines, newspapers, online outlets or on radio or television stations." Awards are typically presented at AHCJ's annual meeting.

"This award, generously supported by 3M, honors a single story that demonstrates excellence in science journalism to educate and engage audiences while combating misinformation. Entries in this category may report across areas such as, but not limited to, health and wellness, climate change, medical and natural sciences, space science, scientific innovation, STEM education and careers, and/or the role of science in society (including issues and opportunities around stereotypes, diversity and inclusion). Journalism in a variety of mediums is encouraged and may include a combination of writing, photography, data visualization, video or audio." The Online Journalism Awards are typically open for entries in April/May and are presented at the Online News Association's annual meeting in late summer/early fall.

"In each category, there are two awards: Gold, with a prize of $5,000, and Silver, with a prize of $3,500.
